Swimming skills that prepare them

Drowning is fast. It’s silent. And it can happen in less than 20 seconds.

There’s no splash, no warning, and often no obvious sign that something is wrong. It happens quietly, and by the time it’s recognised, there may be very little time to respond.

The reality is that drowning continues to impact families across Australia every year. According to Royal Life Saving Australia’s National Drowning Report 2025, there were 357 drowning deaths, the highest on record and well above the national average.

For many parents, safety around water feels like supervision. Watching closely. Staying nearby.

But supervision alone doesn’t teach a child what to do.

When something unexpected happens, children don’t have time to think it through. What they do in that moment comes down to instinct, and instinct is built through practice.

That’s where GOswim swimming lessons make a difference. Through structured progression, repetition and guided learning, children develop real skills they can rely on, not just familiarity with water, but the confidence to respond in it.

Because water safety isn’t just about being watched. It’s about being prepared.

Royal Life Saving Australia also reports that half of children leave primary school unable to swim 50 metres and float for two minutes, a gap that can carry real risk as they spend more time in and around water.

With consistent practice and ongoing progression, GOswim helps children build capability over time, learning how to stay calm, move effectively, and respond when it matters most.

Real skills aren’t learned in a moment. They’re built over time, through practice, repetition, and experience.

Real skills make the difference when building water confidence with GOswim and prioritising lessons is a choice you can make today.
